Farms & Fun in the Prairie State
Illinois U-pick Farm
Buying local produce at one of many farmers’ markets is one way to participate in Illinois’ agricultural scene – but did you know it also include wineries, pumpkins patches, Christmas tree farms, and pick-your-own orchards?
Though you wouldn’t think it, Chicago features a great agritourism scene. Chi Town features the Garfield Park Conservatory, and farmers markets like Green City Market. Suburban stops include Apples On Oak in Joliet, and Keller’s Farmstand in Naperville.
Northern Illinois offers agricultural meccas like Woodstock, Galena, and Geneso – not to mention the Northern Illinois Wine Trail. Look forward to the All Seasons Apple Orchard-Pumpkin Patch, and the Adventure Creek Alpaca Farm.
The Prairie State’s middle sector is known for more orchards, pick-your-own farms, and pumpkins. The Capital City of Springfield features the U-pick Jefferies Orchard, Abe's Corn Maze, and holiday fun at Crowder Tree Farm and Cassens' Christmas Trees & Crafts. The Pumpkin Capital of the World, Morton hosts the annual Morton Pumpkin Festival, while East Peoria has the Fon Du Lac Farm and Schaer's Country Market.
Agritourism in southern Illinois is easy to come by, thanks to picturesque cities like Nashville, Carbondale, and Marion. Farms are found throughout, like Green Ridge Farm, Mulberry Hill Farm, and University Farms. Don’t miss the "Darn Hot Peppers" in Cobden, the Rainbow Ranch Petting Zoo, and plenty of wineries.
Choose your region, and get start on agricultural adventure in the Land of Lincoln.
