Eastern Illinois University was originally known as the Eastern Illinois State Normal School, established in 1895. Found in Charleston, a charming city in southern Illinois just north of Effingham, EIU is a public institution featuring a picturesque small town campus, just north of Sister City Park. The EIU Old Main, the first building constructed on campus, was built in 1899 and still stands today. Enjoy EIU Panthers sports games when you visit the O'Brien Stadium, home of the football team.
