Illinois State University
"Gladly We Learn and Teach" is the school motto for Illinois State University, the oldest of all public universities in the state. You'll find ISU in Normal, just north of Bloomington and not far from Pontiac and Morton. Any central Illinois should yield a trip to the campus of ISU – experience some of the top highlights and attractions once there. Be sure to check out John W. Cook Hall or the Milner Library.
Established in 1857, ISU was originally known as the Illinois State Normal University. ISU is tied to an interesting piece of history – it was Abraham Lincoln who was hired by the Board of Education to assemble the proper legal documents in order to secure funding for the school. Along with its history, ISU also features exciting sports. The ISU Redbirds play football in the fall at Hancock Stadium, baseball in the spring at Duffy Bass Field, and basketball in the winter at Redbird Arena.
