Scott Air Force Base
Established in 1917 after the United States entered World War I, Scott Air Force Base is located near the southern Illinois community of Mascoutah. Still in current use by the U.S. Military, Scott Air Force Base was just one of the 32 training facilities established after the US began involvement in WWI.
Scott Air Force Base is named in honor of Corporal Frank S. Scott. He's known to be the very first enlisted man to be killed in an aviation crash. SAFB is home to nearly 5,500 active-duty Air Force members. During WWII, Scott Air Force Base became a major training ground for the Air Force.
