Illinois is a diverse and eclectic state, with a wide range of attractions, sites, and plenty of things to do. When your travels have you visiting IL during the summer months, look for these premier examples of water parks for some family fun and aquatic adventures.
Here are eight water parks you won't want to miss the next time you visit Illinois.
1. Lakeview Family aquatic center
Explore Illinois and head for East Peoria and check out the Lakeview Family Aquatic Center. A short drive north closer to downtown Peoria in central IL, the Lakeview Family Aquatic Center offers public swimming, lessons for the kids, and on select Saturday's in July, they have the Lakeview Goes Into Overtime night swim event.
2. Magic waters water park
Usually opening at the end of May, with swim days and events through the end of August, the Magic Waters Water Park is a premier summer destination in northern Illinois. Found in Cherry Valley, you can make the short drive from nearby Woodstock or South Beloit and rides like the Double Dar Drop or Typhoon Terror.
3. Raging waves water park
This summer, make your way to Yorkville, just west of downtown Chicago, and check out Raging Waves Water Park. With easy access from nearby cities like Naperville and Saint Charles, Raging Waves Water Park is a top summer destination for families seeking a fun cool-down.
4. Six flags Great america
Just a few miles inland of Lake Michigan, near Waukegan, you'll find Six Flags Great America. Explore the depths of Six Flags Great America and check out Hurricane Harbor, home to a slew of water park rides. Drive in from Gurnee or Antioch, and be sure to visit Castaway Creek, Buccaneer Bay, and Bahama Mama and Bubba Tubba.
5. Splash Kingdom at knight's action park
Venture further south in central IL and head for Springfield – don't miss out on Splash Kingdom at Knight's Action Park. 6. Rainbow falls water park
Part of the Elk Grove Park District, Rainbow Falls Water Park is a premier destination near Schaumburg. Especially fun during the hot summer months, Rainbow Falls Water Park is open from late May through the end of August. Don't miss any of the 18 different rides and aquatic attractons like the Calypso Twist slide, or the Barracuda Bowl. Drive in from Rosemont, just outside of the Chicago area.

7. Pelican harbor aquatic park
Featuring both indoor and outdoor water park attractions, the Pelican Harbor Aquatic Park is a definite best bet in Countryside. A short drive from Hillside and Westmont, Pelican Harbor Aquatic Park features varying degrees of access because of the indoor/outdoor nature. Look for the Lazy River Adventure Channel, or the Parkie the Pelican Tot Slide for the kids.
