Fall brings plenty of beauty and even more activity to central Illinois. Communities from Pontiac to Macomb to Jacksonville are taking advantage of these final snow-less months by participating in a variety of community festivals and outdoor activities. But even when the snow does indeed began to descend; you won’t find any shortage of things to do in central IL.
With fall foliage in its most vibrant form, late October through early November is the ideal time for a driving tour. Whether following along legendary Route 66 or sticking to one of central Illinois' countless charming country roads, towns like Arcola and Effingham promise plenty of roadside attractions to stop and see.
Before the weather gets too frigid, get out and enjoy the Illinois autumn breeze with the PNC Bank Peoria Marathon & Run River City Races on October 16th. Events include a 5K, marathon relay, half marathon, full marathon, and youth run. Even better, after the runs are through, enjoy awesome music, food, and drinks at the Peoria Civic Center.
The following month, Peoria residents will be turning their attention to the holiday season. From November 26th through December 31st, central IL visitors can enjoy the East Peoria Festival of Lights, hosted at on Par 3 Lane near the Fon du Lac Golf Course in East Peoria.
Spending New Years in Springfield? Luck you, the city celebrates each New Year with the First Night Springfield event at Springfield High School Commons form 6 to 11:15 p.m. The event is completely family-friendly, boasting kid’s activities, fireworks, live music, and more.
Then, later in the year, Springfield brings two great concerts to town. Frist, on February 24th, Aram Demirjian conducts the Illinois Symphony Orchestra at UIS Sangamon Auditorium, performing classic compositions from Beethoven. Then, the next month, Clint Black brings his long list of hits to Prairie Capital Convention Center.
