Plan for Festivals in Chicago
The Chicago Jazz Festival is a Must See
Enjoy Some Jazz Jams in Chicago
The next time you’re exploring Chicago over Labor Day weekend, you’re in for a real jazzy treat – head to the Petrillo Music Shell at Grant Park for the Chicago Jazz Festival. It's a real treat for the whole family.
An annual event, the Chicago Jazz Festival has evolved into a Labor Weekend tradition, with music lovers traveling in from Dekalb, Evanston, and St. Charles for the free event. The performances are spread between Millennium Park, the Chicago Cultural Center, and Grant Park.
Under the control of the Jazz Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Jazz Festival celebrated it’s inaugural year in 1979 – notable guests since include Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, and John Coltrane.
The Chicago Jazz Festival is just one member of a summer-wide series of concerts and other events – others include the Chicago Blues Festival, created in honor of Muddy Waters, dubbed the “father of Chicago Blues,” and the other event is the Taste of Chicago – a foodies dream.
While you make your trek through the Windy City, be sure to explore the history and lore of the town – don’t miss a visit to Wrigley Field, home of the Cubs, and be sure to tour the Willis Tower, formerly the Sears Tower, as these are staples of Chicago’s history and aura. But when you’re done with those and looking for some classic bluesy jams, make your way to the Chicago Jazz Festival.
