Motorcycle to Starved Rock State Park

Riding Through Central and Northern Illinois

Wind your way through the Land of Lincoln this summer on iron horseback.

This 140-mile ride starts in Peoria and takes up to six hours if you're allowing time for lunch and pit stops. The paths stick to historic highways and riverside roadways, making sure you get the best view of the Illinois countryside as ride to Starved Rock State Park, just east of the Best Western hotel in Oglesby. Take Illinois State Route 20 North through cities like Chillicothe, continuing up and around to De Pue. Keep heading east until you reach the Starved Rock State Park – the perfect place to stop for lunch.

Mount back up and pass Buffalo Rock State Park, then turn south on North 2401st Road, also known as Chicago Road and Deer Park Road, until you reach IL-178 South, and get back on North 2101st Road. Then take the IL-251 South to the IL-17 East, and coast into the town of Lacon. Find IL-26 South and ride that down until you wind up back in Peoria.

Head to Peoria in August and catch the Budweiser Grand Nationals Weekend – a celebration of motorcycles if ever there was one. Start off with the Motorcycle Parade for Charity on Saturday morning, then settle in for more fun at the Antique & Custom Bike Show and a Central Illinois Extreme stunt show. Catch the big event – the Grand National TT Motorcycle Races – and end your day with some great live music, headlined by rock-legend Ted Nugent. Sounds like you won’t want to miss this – all found just a 15-minutes from the Best Western hotel in Morton.
